Christmas Miracle
For the past 15 years we have had the privilege of pastoring New Life Assembly of God in Patton Village, Texas. In these past years we have never been able to supply Christmas gifts for the children that come to the church on Wednesday nights for our children programs, but this year we experienced a Christmas miracle. A friend called and said that she wanted to provide Barbie dolls for the girls of the church with a handmade wardrobe for each doll. When she asked how many we would need I said 35 with hesitation because I knew that was a big number. Without even stopping to think about it, she said ‘That will be fine” and she would begin working on getting them together.
I then knew that we would have to provide gifts for the boys of our program. I was still thinking about what we could do when another friend called and asked what she could do for the children of our church. I felt humbled as I told her about the girls gifts and that we had nothing prepared for the boys. My friend said that she would take that mission. This mom, who is a widow with 9 children, began working on 25 gifts for boys. I was speechless.
Last Wednesday we distributed the gifts to the children. It was such a joy to see the excitement on each one’s face as they unwrapped their gift.
Then the miracle continued. After we had distributed the gifts, there was not one left. Not one too many and not one less. The exact number had been sent for the group we had that night. By then I was crying at the graciousness of our Lord.
I told the children the story of how the gifts came to them and that we had never before given gifts to the children for Christmas. I told them that this year the Lord was making sure that they received Christmas gifts. I told them that this year they received a gift from Jesus and if they should ever doubt God’s love for them, they should remember this night. The night of our Christmas miracle.
